Self Care

IMG_5039

Sometimes I wish I lived in a giant mansion with a panic room to block out the noise of the kids fighting. Unfortunately, I don’t have that luxury. Instead we have a big open floor plan where sound travels so when they fight it sounds like someone is being murdered. This is why self care is so important. I could link where to get your nails or hair done but that isn’t the kind of self care I am talking about. I will break down some simple, inexpensive ways to get some of that much needed pampering.

Baths

Baths were a lifesaver after a long day when I was a single mom. It seriously got to the point where I couldn’t take a bath without bubbles, candles, bath bombs, a glass of wine or cup of tea and mood music. I mean, is it even really a bath without all those things? As soon as my kiddo went to sleep the bubbles were out. It is the perfect thing to help you reset after your day.

Nature

I know I bring this up a lot but I simply can not express it enough. Spending time in nature correlates with serotonin and dopamine synthesis. Simply put: nature makes you happy. As little as five minutes spent outdoors improves mood and increases motivation. Eau Claire has a TON of walking paths all around if you look. The Boyd Park nature trail is one of my personal favorites. It’s super close to work so I can bike down and go on a quick hike before starting my day.

Connect With a Friend

I think sometimes when we are parents we forget to reach out to friends. Friends can be the thing that carries you through. I challenge you to take one day a week to set aside at least an hour to connect with a friend. It can be a workout buddy or even just grabbing a coffee together to reconnect. Sometimes parenting can be lonely and we feel isolated. Keeping some close friends is super important.

Find a Hobby

If you don’t have a hobby already, get one. Hobbies can really help you keep an identity outside of parenthood. I sometimes feel like I have no identity outside of being a mother and partner. This is why doing something you enjoy is so important. It can be art, gardening, running or literally anything that makes you feel like you.
