An Eau Claire Loch Ness Monster?
Who doesn't love a good local legend story? I'm a sucker for an old wives tale, especially when it comes to folklore, monsters, ghosts, or anything paranormal.
So when I heard about a story that Half Moon Lake in Eau Claire might have its version of the Loch Ness Monster, I had to dive in more! No pun intended.
According to local paranormal researcher and investigator, Chad Lewis, the first mention of a lake monster in Half Moon popped up in 1886 when a fisherman witnessed a 7-foot long serpent looking monster.
After that, more stories, and sightings, started to become public including sightings in the Chippewa River.
An easy explanation could be a large fish. Maybe a sturgeon. Or even a water soaked log. And as much as I want to believe a prehistoric creature is living in Half Moon, I also know that once a story starts, that story stays in peoples minds and when they think they see something, it must be that huge monster they read about in the paper or heard about at the local tavern.
But regardless, the next time you head to Half Moon Lake in Eau Claire, whether its to fish, or swim, or even if you're heading to Carson Park for a baseball game, maybe have an eye on the water. Because you never know what you may see....
