Winter Hair Problems Solved: 2025 Color Trends, Glossing, and Hydration Tips That Work
Winter is officially here, and if you're already dealing with static, tangles, and dry ends-you're not alone. I'm Meg Ann Lee , a full time hair stylist in Eau Claire, and I see the same winter hair struggles every year, but 2025 has some clear trends that are actually making hair more manageable, not harder.
This season is less about dramatic changes and more about healthy, wearable hair that still looks polished through the holidays.
The Hair Colors
Winter 2025 is all about richness and tone control. On brunettes, that means deeper browns with dimension-think chocolate, espresso, and soft warmth without going brassy. These shades photograph beautifully and grow out well, which clients love during the busy holiday season.
For blondes, cooler tones are still popular, but they're being achieved more gently. Instead of constant lightening, I'm doing more glossing and toner appointments to keep blondes icy, creamy, or neutral without over-processing. Glosses are a huge win in winter because they add shine, correct tone, and help hair feel healthier when the air is dry.
Low-Maintenance Hair Is the Trend
Clients are leaning into styles that don't require daily heat styling. Heatless curls are still a huge trend and I'm here for it! If you have a soft layered haircut you gotta try heatless curls. Winter weather doesn't play nice with perfect curls or sleek blowouts, so cuts that move easily are key.
If you're thinking of going short, bobs are TAKING OVER in the hair world. A nice sleek bob in the winter is so chic. I say go for it!
I'm also seeing more people embracing their natural wave or curl pattern and just enhancing it with the right products instead of fighting it every morning.

Winter Hair Care That Actually Helps
Dry air, coats, scarves, and constant temperature changes all lead to tangling and static. The biggest fixes are simple. Water & leave in treatments. Hydrating treatments are huge right now, especially in-salon treatments that help lock moisture back into the hair. At home, lightweight leave-ins and oils help prevent friction without weighing hair down.
Another big tip is brushing gently and often. Winter tangles get worse when hair is neglected, especially around the nape and under scarves. A soft brush and a little patience go a long way!
Here are some of my favorites:
Winter isn't the season to overdo it. Fewer blonding appointments, more glossing, regular trims, and hydration-focused haircare will keep your hair looking better than trying to "fix" dryness with more heat or more bleach.
If your hair feels manageable, shiny, and healthy-you're doing winter hair right.
