Baked Goods/Wicked Sweet Bake Shop

I’m always on the search for bakeries. going back to when I was about two years old and loving myself some “rolls” (my catch-all term for things like long johns), the dessert-for-breakfast has been well met via a local bakery. If a new one comes about within decent driving distance of Eau Claire, I’m there. Cadott is within decent driving distance, so the other day, “there” was Wicked Sweet Bake Shop.

They opened not long ago on Main Street in Cadott. They key is arriving early in the day, when the supply is plentiful. However, even if you’re like me and arrive near closing time in the early afternoon on a weekday, there are still a good number of options. I eyed a gourmet caramel apple for my wife — she loves those delights — and I asked for the recommended things to get. So, I ended up with a cruller and a Bavarian creme.

The cruller had a nice glaze around the dough; the actual dough was soft and slightly-chewy, right about the consistency you want in a baked good. I see why it was recommended. Meanwhile, the Bavarian creme was the classic type: chocolate on top, the same nice dough for the solid portion, and a sweet mousse in the middle. I had actually refrigerated mine to preserve it for breakfast the next day, the the still-cool cream added a nice touch to the eating — I’d advise trying the same if you can hold-off having your Bavarian cream before you get home.

My toddler roamed a bit around the shop while I was there; the next morning, she had some of the cruller and quite enjoyed it. Consider us all satisfied. If you’d like a little a.m. (or early p.m.) satisfaction, find the time to drive to Cadott for a Wicked Sweet treat.
